Butter me up with Butternut Squash Ravioli!

By Gabrielle Sunheart

My love of Italian Cuisine brings me to one of my favorite restaurants in the world thankfully its located on the Central Coast, in Pismo Beach...where I currently reside!  As a world traveler and seeker of all the finer things in life I highly recommend Giuseppe's.  Their usage of seasonally inspired fare as well as the care that they put into each and every delectable dish is outstanding.  To anyone unsure of what to order I would suggest the butternut squash ravioli as a main dish as well as the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer.  Their salads are exquisite.  Any one of their desserts make a perfect choice my personal favorite is the crème Brule.  The staff is so friendly and beautiful they look as though they should all model for GAP!  Your experience will be a delight.

And since it is such a popular restaurant you most likely will find yourself waiting a table.  However this should only be looked at as a benefit because they have a lovely bar outfitted with gorgeous bartenders and oh yes the drinks are fantastic.  The Peanut Butter and Jelly martini is amongst my favorites... If you do not drink don't worry they also have delicious cafe, lattes just like you would find in any villa of Italy.

If your like me and love great food served beautifully in a homey, Italian setting then you must put Giuseppe's on your list for a local dinning experience.   Enjoy!

Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of dining at the Bistro le Fandango with a friend we were seated upon our request by the windows.  I thought that the photographs on the walls gave the space a very homey-artsy feel.

I agreed to try the escargot appetizer which with some coaxing turned out to be amazing and I loved the usage of parsley in this dish.  The sauce in this appetizer was delicious.  And I highly recommend it.

While deciding upon my entree I was delighted to see the variety of Vegetarian Options available on the menu.  Yet I chose the special of Pumpkin and artichoke Ravioli in a curry sauce.   My Dinner was delicious, overall the food and atmosphere was fantastic.

Culinary Adventure at the Sea Venture!

By Gabrielle Sunheart

It's not often that a local restaurant reinvents itself for the better, but when Chef Paul Novak came out of Seattle with 21 years of experience and sophistication, he brought Sea Venture's flavor to new heights.

Let me tell you about the excellent 5 course dinner we had on Friday night.  It started with an amazing bistro plate.  The attention to detail was prevalent in this delicious appetizer.  It featured almonds that were roasted and infused with fresh candied orange peels, rosemary, and olive oil.  The dish also featured artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, and memorable roasted bell peppers, bell pepper spread, and goat cheese all beautifully plated with thinly sliced toasted bread.

Next up were the mixed field greens featuring sweet juicy pairs, a generous helping of blue cheese, and tender baby greens.  This is a salad that I will order again and again. Then the bouillabaisse was served.  It was surprisingly delicate as the calamari was very tender and the muscles and clams were so well married in this gentle broth.  Mild, delicious, and satisfying.

The lobster that I ordered was cooked perfectly and presented with elegance.  The tiny baby potatoes, young and crisp green beans, as well as fresh sweet corn were a delicious compliment.  I must say that I cannot recall better lobster - it was so tender and sweet!  Finally dessert: the Mexican flan with caramel melted silkily in my mouth;  the peach cobbler, served in a a little baking dish, had a fluffy, buttery crust, and is by far one of the best desserts I have ever enjoyed.

The delicious food paired with the friendly service and the view of the coastline makes for dining that is perfectly elegant.   So don't just take my word for it, see for yourself.  Plan to enjoy the best dinner in Pismo Beach at the Sea Venture Resort!

Shine Cafe

Located inside Sunshine Health Foods
at 415 Morro Bay Blvd. in Morro Bay!

Open 8am-Monday-Saturday Closed Sunday

Healthy at its most delicious at the Shine Cafe So how did I rate their organic vegan dishes?   Lets just say I will be heading back for seconds and thirds!   The food is amazing and the people you meet there are just as delicious! (Above Stephanie is the owner of Shine cafe and she is also responsible for the amazing dressings.)

The dishes served at the Shine Cafe are, fresh, exciting, healthy and satisfying.  And that's because they use the highest quality of whole ingredients that nourish your body and soul.  Components that taste amazing and help your body function at its very best.

I highly recommend The Power Pita because the hummus has a perfect balance of garlic and middle eastern spices.   And its served with fresh greens and shredded carrots that are so sweet they could easily double as candy and toped with a cilantro dressing that is so creamy you wonder how in the world do they do that without cream!  I also recommend the fresh spring rolls that come with the ginger sesame dressing.  They are so fresh and the made from scratch dressing is exceptional.  The creaminess of the avocado marries perfectly with the dipping sauce.

Amongst my other favorites are the Famous Tempeh tacos.  A truly satisfying and hardy dish.  And that's because they use high protein soft taco tortillas topped with avocado, quinoa, fresh green spring mix, carrots and home made salsa.  Yum!  The daily soups are always incredible.  At the Shine your allowed to have a sample of the soup prior to ordering.  But trust me your going to want a bowl of it every time!

They also have an array of smoothies my personal favorite is the Mudslide.  Bananas, almond butter, Carob, Dates and Almond milk.  A new addition to the menu is the avocado smoothie.  It is a surprizingly delicious treat.  I have friends from Brazil that swear by avocado smoothies but this was my first sip and wont be my last!  The treat includes avocado, almond milk and agave.  Yum!

If your going to be in the area a stop at the Shine Cafe is a must.  With nothing on the menu over $10- you cant afford not to.  And while your there have a look at the local art on the walls.  Feel free to ask the locals for advice they are friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

You can ask questions about the local area or the importance of organic, or just the health values in eating whole foods!

A Tempting Oasis Hidden in the Metropolis of San Luis Obispo!

By Gabrielle Sunheart    View their web site at If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a great meal and want to relax and enjoy a beautiful atmosphere, then seek the Oasis Restaurant in San Luis Obispo.  I am sure a lot of you would agree with me that  one of the best ways to spend a leisurely day is to shop-till-you-drop and then seek refuge at a great restaurant.  Well, if you shop in downtown San Luis Obispo, you should definitely experience one of the most unique and pleasurable dining experiences on the Central Coast.

Welcome to the Oasis Restaurant.  I found both the service and the dishes I chose to be exactly what I wanted.  Vegetarian friendly, spicy, and full of unique textures and flavors.

I started with the Moroccan tea which in itself was undoubtedly performance art.  Poured from 2 feet above the pretty little cup, I knew that I had stopped at the right place for a fun and relaxing dinner.

For my dining experience I chose the vegetarian dolmas,  hummus (delicious!), makouda, and lentil soup.

The Oasis turns ordinary grape leaves into dolmas, stuffed with rice herbs and spices - truly a divine appetizer especially when accompanied with the yogurt dip.  The makouda is a spicy fried potato pancake that is served with a flavorful spicy tomato dipping sauce - I crave it every day.

The hummus is one of my favorite foods and is so delicious.  The creaminess of the texture with the garlic and olive oil was impeccable when partnered with the warm pita bread. Of course the soup was a delicious blend of vegetables and spices - very comforting.

The Oasis serves imported beer and wide variety of healthy vegetarian and vegan dishes.  My husband says the lamb is superb, so this is definitely a restaurant everyone will be happy at!  The Oasis features belly dancers on Friday and Saturday evenings which really makes the experience very exotic.  Enjoy the Oasis Restaurant in San Luis Obispo - Moroccan food at its finest.

Tio Albertos

By Gabrielle Sunheart,

Well I was craving Mexican food the other day when I was out in Pismo Beach and I noticed a restaurant that reminded me very much of Mexico, terracotta tile, beautiful artwork on the walls and I was surprised to read that they use only olive oil in there recipes.  Heaven on earth!

For starters I decided on the strawberry lemonade that is made fresh each day with real strawberries. It was so refreshing that I had to have a second glass.  For my lunch I ordered the chile relleno, which happed to be the best one I've had, and since it was served with rice and beans it was a very hearty dish - easy on my pocket book too.  The rice was fluffy and flavorful, the beans perfect, and the salsa was very good.

Since I liked it so much I decided to go back and have a taste of the breakfast.  I ordered something I have never had before,  an oatmeal waffle served with papaya and real maple syrup.  Wow!  It was so good and healthy - I was very impressed.

The service at Tio Alberto's was kind and helpful.  The dishes were reasonable priced and combined with the authentic atmosphere and healthy ingredients - it's a must try!  Tio Albertos is a fantastic example of a great restaurant.

A Must Try!

My whole life has been centered around trying something new at least once.  I've had many meals at various Krishna temples because I LOVE Indian food and adore the colorful, kind and warm culture.

So when I spotted The Taj Cafe I could not resist.  And let me tell you it was an all around perfect evening.  I brought my kids and they loved the sweet chutneys and spices in the dishes we ordered.  My favorite is the veggie dumplings that came in a delicate yet satisfying sauce.  I ordered that along with several other dishes my server suggested as well as vegetable jasmine rice and nann bread which happened to be warm right out of the oven which in my opinion is the only way bread should be served no matter what!

My server was helpful even though he had a slightly harder time with English but I always look at that as an opportunity to learn a few new words in this case I learned how to say thank you very much = Granmesi Ladakhi. At this moment I'm actually craving Taj Cafe again! I loved each dish and thought that it was very aromatic and pleasing to the eye. There were many options for a vegetarian and I tried most of them.  And each one was amazing.  I will choose to eat there again and again because this is now on my personal favorites list and next time I visit Santa Barbara I will make certain to visit again.  This is a must visit when your lucky enough to be in Santa Barbara!

Steaming Bean

Downtown Shell Beach

Well I don't know about you but I love a great cafe.  A place where I can relax...meet new people, and delight in a yummy drink.  Personally I have found the Steaming Bean to have the very best Chai Teas on the planet.  They put a mountain of whip cream on top of it as well as caramel!  I get the vanilla one.  And so if your in the area of Shell Beach, and you love a relaxing yet artsy meets surfer gypsy environment this is certainly worth a try!
